furthermore why do people who play video games care if it has a pretentious, lofty title or not?How exactly are video games not art? what qualifies as art?
Alot of video games are the mindless crap that critics hate when it's in movies.
What people need to realize is that SOME games are art (i.e.: Heavy Rain, Red Dead Redemption) and some aren't, just like movies.
They also need to realize that non-art can be good, too.How exactly are video games not art? what qualifies as art?
Anything can be art. It takes skill and knowledge to produce anything. There is an art to creating anything, but when you use a medium to express yourself; then, it becomes "real" art. Anybody can put paint on canvas or play three chords on a guitar, but it doesn't become art until it expresses something you feel.
I think some video games could be considered art. But it is in the eye of the beholder to qualify it or not. I feel like Grand Theft Auto, is a perfect statement on societies inability to act as it truly wishes. However, most would argue that it is just a game where you can steal cars and run over hookers.
