look up the video game ico, legend of zelda twighlight princess and any game that takes place in a fictional setting and pulls the look off is genuine art all the way, are there negative sterotypes about gamers? also, shadow of the colossus is a very artistic gameWhy dont people believe video games are art?
I know tons of beautiful games you listed three very good ones.
But I think people don't think it's art for the obvious reason, video games are well, computer generated, unless you want to stop in the game for a moment you can't really see them too cleary, and you can't take the art with you. It is art because its beautiful and someone had to create it, even computer generating is an art, but people fail to see it that way because well, it is a GAME. Like in the tittle.
I still love allot of video game art though.
Because they are just games. Why dont people believe video games are art?
video game are art
i think video games can be quite beautiful. and it is most definitely an art.Why dont people believe video games are art?
Enough with the questions, all right already!
Artists like to put themselves above any kind of art that can be reproduced and mass-marketed. So while there is a great amount of art in games it's looked at as child like or just a game. It's sad really, because there is a great amount of work that goes into a game to make it look the way it does.
Personnaly I think that the stuff they put into games now is killer and would fall into what Robert williams calls low brow art. It's for the masses and not just snooty wanna-be's. The thing is, true pieces of fine art could now be considered the same. The Mona Lisa, the Last Supper, the list goes on and on. When these "Masterpieces" were created I don't think they were meant for T-shirts, coffee mugs, or calanders but ther they are mass produced for the world to buy. So does that mean they lose their status in greatness? No.
Comics have gone through the same debate, as well as tattoos and other forms of art that don't meet the "Standards" of the art community. The truth of the matter is there is more true art going into these things than fine arts at this point.
There's enough people out there that do recognize the fact that what goes into a game can be and is art. If the person you're talking to says different their response comes from a closed mind.
As far as negative stereotypes about gamers you bet. They're all geeks and nerds, they all take the games too seriously, they're lazy and just play games all day, again the list goes on. I've heard them all. I'll be honest I don't play like I used to. I've played video games since they first put out the pong console back in the seventies. There's really only two titles I play at home on a consistant basis. Am I any of these things? No. I'll bet you and the other gamers that read this arn't either. (Ok, some might be!)
