Please, explain the reasoning to me.Why don't people consider video games to be art?
(Making a video game) = Art
(Playing a Video game) = Not Art -_-
Words can be used to mean many thing. Its the way you use it that makes one excellent.
Your are saying video games, when you are trying to say visual art or 3d designs. In reality parents or adults view video games as a waste of time. But just like cigarettes might be bad for you the companies make millions. So even though the view of video games might not be positive they make millions.
Creating video games itself is art, designing the characters is just amazing.
Plus, most parents have a fixated mind that artists, actresses, and singer as a profession will never make it in life. They want to see you as a doctor, lawyer or even the president. Why don't people consider video games to be art?
I dunno, I think it's art.
Not only the graphics, but the story must be good, too.
They worked long and hard designing and testing games.
Those who say otherwise, I guess I don't blame them.
Video games can be a symbol of laziness. Or nerdiness, if that's a word.
Some parents also think some games have too much violence.
Some people think people who play video games have no life.
And sometimes, video games can lead to crazy acts. (I heard a kid killed his father when he was sleeping because the dad look away his keyboard. And another story of how the parents of a child were too busy taking care of their virtual baby to take care of the real one.)
I think that video games are art. I think that because a lot of time, planning, creativity, design, etc. have to go into making a video game. If you compare video games to paintings, people enjoy them like people play and enjoy video games, so saying video games are not a form of art(and sometimes literature) is like saying painting or another form of art is not really art.Why don't people consider video games to be art?
It depends on the game, I'm guessing for it to be considered art.
There's an example; Okami is a video-game that you'll consider art. It's basically an art game, but in two ways: it's a draw game plus it's a Japanese art-based game with the cell-shading, beautiful music and all that jazz so a lot consider it more art than game. It has a world that you can explore with beautiful effects that exist in it. The art of it also can describe that it's like a 3D world(RPG much?). The real art is through the beauty.
To be bit more on topic, it's not just the graphics, but it's likely considered art due to the fact it is like "works of art" with how the creators make it. Consider it like a movie: Would you call that art? It may be since art is the Latin word for "arm." Video games require you to use arms. Movies are made using arms. Of course, we consider artists to be singers, songwriters, painters. It could be part of that too. Games are work of art, maybe.
Now I'm just rambling..
Hey, I see you have the same problems about finding good games to play a friend of mind was going nuts because he could not find the right games, He e-mail me asking where could he look for the best games to play and I told him I don't have a clue , So I contacted another friend of mine that plays super hot games and he told me about this page of Elite games and it was just what he was looking for, It might be just what you are looking for too .
Good luck
Its not art, its a game. (unless the game has something that requires artisticness
