For my art exam i was thinking of doing the brief 'Games' so i need names of some artists that i can reference my work to. Suggestions are to do with objects associated with games, like sporting equipment, chess pieces, playing cards etc. Ideally I want to go down the trivial route with board games %26amp; playing cards etc.
Thanks!Artists that specialize in playing card art, chess art, general board game art preferably well known ?
That is going to head down some great trivia paths ... let's see if I can offer some names.
The biggest name I know in themed chess sets is the Studio of Anne Carlton but I can't find anything about the person of Anne Carlton. Perhaps you can search a little deeper on that name and maybe find something usable. I also found this site for original chess set design which looks like a fun browse: http://www.zelazny.com/gallery_a_pg2.htm鈥?/a>
As for designers of board games, try searching on Reiner Knizia or Tim Walsh or Peggy Brown for contemporary game designs. The game of Monopoly was invented by a man in Pennsylvania named Charles Darrow (I just learned that from the Hasbro site).
Hopefully, that will be enough starting places to get those creative juices flowing ... and good luck on your exam.Artists that specialize in playing card art, chess art, general board game art preferably well known ?
I don't know of a famous artist who concentrated on games, but The Card Players by Cezanne (is very famous), and Children's Games (a big painting of many different games) by Breugel, also well-known. Also: The Card Sharps by Caravaggio, and The Fortune Teller by the same artist. The American artist Thomas Eakins painted The Chess Players.Artists that specialize in playing card art, chess art, general board game art preferably well known ?
MC Escher doesn't really specialize in chess but he's done a chess illusion which is pretty cool:
