Are video games viewed as art? If not, should they be? If so, should they not be?Are video games an art form?
art is in the eye of the beholder
Yes they are for a number of reasons. First, the story someone has to come up with in original games. Obviously, you've got games like Castlevania which take its story from Bram Stoker's artistic work, but some game concepts are original to the video game designers. (ie Megaman series) Second, someone has to come up with original music for these games. Someone has to market these games to the public. Of course they're an art form, but sometimes they are merely borrowed from other artists. Are video games an art form?
Very much so. If one can construct a visual interactive video game with vivid virtual texture, clever puzzles, thumping action, and emotional depth. Then I would consider that an art-form.
Also, take street fighter 4 for example. It has Amazing visual artwork and graphics, so much so, it was described as a 'moving painting' as far as the introduction/trailer goes.
it is dependant, if you are making one then it is completly an art not just from the artistic values that you see but also the coding and how well some of them are put together. if you are playing it then no it isntAre video games an art form?
No, but if your creating them i beleive that they are an art form. Because what are you truly expressing by playing video games, and music is art, maybe not listening to it.
i see the actual graphic design of the game as art
I feel it's a little half and half. I don't find coding very artsy, but the visuals yeah.
I'd say more of a craft. Art with a non-art purpose.
no..they are entertainment. like music or sports
