Will video games ever be viewed as art rather than toys?

Video Games in themseleves are art. The code is created as an expression of the creator.. and the player of the game lives the experience just like somone watching a film.

Also, When I create my games I do a great deal of artwork for the in-game art and GUI.|||it allready is!!!|||I think they will. Not as 'high' art, though - but I think they'll be accepted as art.|||I don't know, but I do think some are gonna go down in history. I also know that older systems and games like the NES get a lot of respect from non-gamers.|||honestly i dotn think they ever will be. to most, video games are just something to be played not to be looked at as art. but maybe ;ate ron int he future they will be|||I think they will, and should. Maybe if people like Jack Thompson would actually play games they would. Look at games like Shadow of the Collossus. That is art.|||I don't think so, because as it is now. The only focus that is put on video games is the negative one, due to more of the video games are considered very violent and causing kids to be more into killing and things like that. Art would never be that way is what some would tell you or have you think. Though some of the PC games may have a chance I guess. They are become very colorful and less violent.
