Why do people say video games ruin minds i mean they are forms of art and people put alot of work into them?

It's true, some of the graphics and strategies are brilliant.



It's not the content so much as the fact that so many kids and adults too, are getting addicted. Young people get obsessed and don't want to do anything else and pretty soon can't think about anything else.



People can become very limited that way. In imagination, in not spending time around people or joining clubs or groups or sports...not learning at school, not doing well in college, not looking for ajob. not paying attention at work, making stupid mistakes on the highway, sitting home and getting fat...



It's getting to be a real problem for students and young people. The addiction is carrying over into marriage and the 30 year olds now. This generation is troubled.
I guess they mean it keeps some from doing constructive and more active things. I think it's a little narrow minded in a way because many video games can sharpen the mind and not to mention hand/eye coordination.Why do people say video games ruin minds i mean they are forms of art and people put alot of work into them?
Really more of a form of technology than art, but it does take some artistic contributions, especially now with more cinematics and better graphics in games. People have always tried to blame the media for their irresponsibility's. It's not right to say the media influences what we do and think. To some extent it does, but if you kill someone because you seen it on GTA then there was already something wrong with you.
Video games are only tools. Use it well such as making virtual tours or ancient cities for educational purposes and there is nothing wrong using a video game engine. But it's only the person who thinks it's real should have never been given a game system.



The only variable that is never constant. Humanity. If you have a child who was never raised well by parents or never understood that jails are here for a reason if you kill someone, then chances are it's the parent's fault for getting the brat the video game. Never give a child a video game if you don't show them what prison is like. That will set the child on the straight and true.



In my university, they use the Crysis Engine to make real time walk throughs of houses and historical buildings. Even final year grad grad projects were created using the software. This is evidence where you can use video games into positive use but sadly, the people who blame video games do not want to understand the concept of "personal responsibility".

They can be very addictive, make people lazy, cause people to just sit around for hours and play. Its a waste of a mind that can be doing something more constructive or useful. I love playing games online. Games are not bad, just the amount of time people actually spend doing it, is bad for them. Just regulate yourself and stick to it.
They don't ruin minds, only idiots who play them ruin their mind. My bros and I played GFA and were fine, if your kid is not mentally stable enough to play GTA and still know you can't flame-torch random folks, they shouldn't play.

the only wya they ruin minds is by being mentally addicting, like people get addicited to call of duty and WOW. you have to draw the line.
