He brings up a lot of goods points, and references Rick Wakeman.
He references Rick Wakeman, people! That's an accomplishment in itself.
Anyway, do you think his opinion is veritable, or is he simply being...ignorant? You decide for yourselves.
http://blogs.suntimes.com/ebert/2010/04/鈥?/a>What do you think of Roger Ebert's discrediting of video games, confidently claiming they can never be art?
He is a smart guy with a whole lot of lame opinions... remind you of anyone? *cough* ROBERT CHRISTGAU *cough*
But yeah... I ask you, Ebert, why can't something have a game aspect and an artistic aspect? He talks about Chess etc... well, perhaps even the construction and rules etc. of Chess has an "art" to it. But in the end it all depends on your definition of "art". I do like Wikipedia's definition... but it is still imperfect. I think video games have a ton of potential that has still been unexplored...
His point about her making the whole thing look more like a business than an art, at the end of his article there, is sly but unconvincing... there has been an "art business" for as long as there has been "art" and "business", is he really trying to separate the two? Well, I'd like to... but as long as we live in this dog-eat-dog Capitalist society, it can't be done.
Video Games... and Rick Wakeman (Y)What do you think of Roger Ebert's discrediting of video games, confidently claiming they can never be art?
Ebert...lol...every movie him and his buddy gave thumbs down to were the best, all the movies they gave thumbs up to sucked. What would he know anyway, games are for fun,not art. What do you think of Roger Ebert's discrediting of video games, confidently claiming they can never be art?
I love Roger Ebert, but his dismissal of video games all together and mocking people who like them is unbearably arrogant.
I think that anything you create can be art. Video games are deffinetly art. If Roger Ebert doesn't think so than oh whell.
